Hello, welcome to "Dianna's Sewcial Craftology Den" and join in my new adventure.  I am currently working with two blogs until I decide which I like working with the best.

I have started a new journey in my life. We recently moved to a new home, in a new town.  I am looking forward to this new life. The downstairs was intended to be a mother in law suite or apartment. I do share the downstairs with a small laundry room.  Not to sure about having to go up and down stairs with the laundry all the time, I have never had a house with stairs before. But, I have to go up and down the stairs to enter my "den".  For some unknown reason, I didn't like telling my hubby that I was going downstairs. When it first came up that I was going to name my new sewing room, he wanted to call it the Craft Cave, but I just can't stand the thought of saying "I'm going to the cave." I'm not bat man, and I just hate caves. It is in the lower level of the house, but since it is actually ground level, it is not a basement and thankfully has some very nice windows. When one first drives up to our house, the outside door to my den is the front door, from the front porch.

For 20 years we live in a large city, small house, small lot. Now we are in the mountains, small rural gated community, about 15 miles from town.  Our property is a tad over an acre.  Our sons bought homes in the same community. They have bigger lots.  Thankfully, the majority of our lot is fairly level.  I am looking forward to planning and planting a sizeable vegetable garden and then canning it up in the fall as well. I will using the square foot gardening system, everything grown in containers or planter boxes. Living where we do has the challenges of elevation and critters. All plants have to be in raised beds due to gophers and voles, wire around the entire garden area due to deer, elk and an occasional bear, we will also put wire across the top to keep out the squirrels and birds.  There are also a few other little critters that wander through as well.  I love watching them, but I want to protect my plants and hens. I also have a few chickens and enjoy them and the few eggs I get from them. We live in a designated preserve so everything is protected.

I am having to change the way I cook, the way I shop, and the way I store food supplies.  This kitchen has no pantry, no place to add a pantry, so I took over the closet in our smallest spare room.

It isn't the best of options, but is serves the purpose well, it is a matter of getting used to doing things a different way. It is only the two of us, but I like to have on hand the ingredients to make a meal.

Unless I can talk hubby in to going out to eat. He is becoming a picky eater in our later years.  After almost 40 years of marriage he announced he doesn't like casseroles. I make A LOT of casseroles. Always have. Also, to add to that, he has never really liked pasta or rice. He is also wanting to reduce his carbs and starches, since he tested borderline diabetic, both his grand parents died from diabetes. So, cutting down on breads and potatoes.

When the end of summer, and the garden is producing well, I will have to figure out another place to store all the vegetables I will be canning and dehydrating. I was given some large glass jars that I can use for dry supplies that do not need to be preserved, but I do have an area in my kitchen for the staples, like flour, sugar, powdered sugar, brown sugar and such.

I would love to be able to really stock up, like a year's supply of food, but hubby won't go for that and we really don't have the space.  I refuse to give up my sewing den.  However, if I am able to get started actually making my stash into quilts and garments, then I will have some extra space because I will not be replenishing those supplies on that large a scale.

As you can see from the Blog title, I am a crafter.  Well...at least I craft things, not sure how good I am at them though. My passion is quilting, and that is what I mainly work on.  I am extremely well outfitted with various machines, gadgets, and a border line hoard of supplies.

I have a Brother 770 embroidery machine, a Pfaff Creative 2.0 sewing machine that has an embroidery unit, a Coronet quilter, a Cricut cutting machine, Easy Press (two sizes), AccuQuilt cutting system (two sizes and hope to add an electric model as well) and a pleater for smocking. I can't knit to save my life, but I can crochet, if it is a very easy pattern.  I do enjoy hand embroidery and love to embellish it up.

Hubby built me this wonderful cutting table as a Christmas gift. It is customized to my personal measurements which will save my back.

It is solid, on wheels so I can move it about, and plenty of storage in the bottom. I will be able to use it for Cricut cutting and Easy Press applications, as well as Accuquilt cutting projects as well.  I  am so excited about it.  I have plenty of projects to work on in the coming weeks to be sure.

Each of those blue boxes in the photo contains a complete quilt project, some have gidget and gadgets to try out as well.

Since the move created a whole packing and unpacking adventure, I found so many things that I had either forgotten about or never really realized I had.  So many little supplies and treasures.

The bins that are stored under the table are full as well. One is quilt tops that are finished but still need to be quilted. Another one is full of orphan quilt blocks or sets of blocks waiting for inspiration to hit me as for setting the blocks up. There is also a bin of scraps.  From time to time, I will take my AccuQuilt and just cut squares, tumblers or hexagons from random scraps.  I love scrap style quilts and am almost obsessives about using every last bit of fabric I can. Okay, I am mildly OCD and a borderline hoarder so I can't throw anything away.  Serves me well though, late at night when I am in the middle of a project, only to find I am out of something, I can usually find it.  That...will be a good thing in the new home because it is a little over an hour, one way, to the nearest store for quilting, sewing, and craft supplies.  I have a feeling that online ordering will become my new friend, but I just really need to feel the fabric, see the color in person some times.

Well, if you are visiting, thank you for being a part of my journey.  So far, this blog set up is easy for me to customize the post portion, but not so much the over all design.  Will have to work on that a bit in the weeks to come.  Come back and see how this all goes.
