Too Long.
WOW! I did not realize how long it has been since I posted. We were getting ready for a family Thanksgiving and half the family went down with Covid. We were busy helping my son and his family, taking them food, checking on their kids, our grand kids, feeding their animals. Since we were helping them, had to distance from everyone else, so Thanksgiving was canceled.
Hubby was able to get our RV repaired. We had a blow out on the trailer and it destroyed the bathroom and floor of the trailer. He is awesome and does great work.
We made it through Christmas of 2021, and a major double hit of snow. We held our breath as we waited to see if our youngest daughter would be able to get up here before the first storm hit. Which she did and then had to leave on the day after Christmas as soon as we opened gifts so they could get down the hill before the second storm hit.
Just getting Christmas dinner and presents set up on a date was a huge feat in itself. Our youngest is a fireman and he was scheduled to be off those days, but Covid hit the department and he kept having to fill in which kept changing the plans every few hours. But, we finally got everyone together. As with all kids, Christmas gift time is always a special time. Youngest grand daughter just watched it all, she was just 5 months old at the time. Next older grand daughter was just a blast to watch, she was 16 months old at the time and one of her toys played "I'm a Little Teapot" and she was absolutely smitten with the song.
Then we had New Year's. Hubby went to our monthly cowboy shoot. I stayed home because...well, I am a wuss and I hate cold, rainy weather. Plus, I was really not feeling that great. But I really enjoyed being snug at home, except for the fog days. I HATE HEAVY FOG. I don't mind a little fog, reminds me of camping in the mountains as a child. But this fog...totally dense, dark...could not see our neighbor or past our drive way.
Then we had to get all the clothes washed up and loaded in the trailer. You have to understand, when you dress up like the old west to shoot at targets? Just say, it is a lot of clothing.
We went to Yuma, AZ for a week. Great shooting fun, great friends, and we got to eat at Cracker Barrel. Only downside to the trip was I was sick the whole time, possible covid, still am sick but I think the worst is behind me. Of course hubby took ill as well, but his lasted about two days and just sniffles. One couple is still sick and another couple had no symptoms but their job requires weekly testing and they tested positive, but thankfully they have no problems. Now, we are back home, and as soon as I have had a few more days to get over this crud, I am starting on some new adventures.
Dianna's Sewcial Den is on it's way to becoming a little part-time business. If I go down that road, there are a lot of details to set in place. I just want to hide out in my den and sew. Make quilts, make baby clothes, grand kid clothes, and some house hold items. I have a list of computer programs to learn to operate...ie quilting, embroidery, Cricut design space...and am looking forward to jumping in to that. Quilting is my passion, and I am so looking forward to learning to use my Coronet quilting machine and finishing some projects in various stages, other wise known as UFO's or UnFinishedObject. LOL There are a lot of quirky little abbreviations for quilting and sewing, such as PIGS or Projects In Grocery Sacks. More of those little names or terms will show up in future posts.
I am determined to get upstairs living area all fixed up as well. We have live in this house about a 1 1/2 years now and I decided it is time to make it my own. We were in our last house for 20 years, and it really never felt like mine. In fact, when we moved, we had no living room furniture. Two recliners and a fake electric fireplace, a couple of end tables was it. We remodeled the kitchen, repainted, remodeled the main bathroom, had just started on the master bath floors...when we decided to make a move. I miss my my main bath, it had an awesome soaker tub, was a large space. However...I LOVE my new home. I went from about 1500 sq. foot home to a two story about 2400 sq. foot house. I had a 10 x 10 ft. sewing room in a spare bedroom, to a 22 x 27 sq. foot sewing den, that originally was a mother in law suite. Basically the whole downstairs. There were some negatives... smaller master bedroom, smaller bathrooms...but love the rest of my house.
We have an open concept large kitchen and living room area, but plan to remodel the kitchen, with new counter tops. How much I get to remodel...depends on what hubby lets me get by with. I have large...but not really expensive plans for the kitchen, but it will make a huge difference. I need a pantry...in the kitchen...currently the pantry is in the closet of a spare bedroom. I love to cook, from scratch, and really need my ingredients in the kitchen as well as all my many...many...gadgets and appliances. On the list of goals for 2022 is learning to make healthier meals and...to finally learn to make biscuits.
And, since the hens on my little homestead farm, are really laying a ton of eggs, I need to learn some new recipes using eggs.
In few months, we will get busy planting the vegetable beds.
The smallest of the spare bedrooms, we call it the white room...because it is painted white...has a full bed. Company never comes to stay with us, so I am going to make it in to a den or sitting room. Where the grand kids can go watch movies or play games. I was given what is called a 1 1/2 chair. It is larger than a chair, not as wide as a love seat, and has a twin size fold out bed, that will be going in there, along with a rocker that was my mom's. It is a small swivel ladies rocker from the 50's. I will attempt to reupholster it, my first time ever, with some great fabric that was given to me.
Okay...I have to say...we have a Facebook page for our town that is only for free stuff that people list things they want to gift to others. IT IS AWESOME. Everything from big household items, clothes, craft supplies, odd assortment of items...anything and everything. I have been scoring some great finds and plan to decorate my whole house with items from there, plus getting rid of things I don't want anymore. As soon as I do a little decorating upstairs, I am going to be rearranging the downstairs Sewcial Den. My friend is having to downsize and is graciously selling me her Koala sewing table. I cannot wait to get it here in a few weeks. I need to move some things out to make a nice space for it and hopefully organize all my stash and supplies a bit more user friendly. I picked up a beautiful blue love seat that a neighbor was giving away. Originally it was for upstairs, but I fell in love with it so am now incorporating it down here so I can relax and do handwork while watching TV.
I played with my Brother SE 1900 and did a little machine embroidery. It was a learning curve, had to figure out how to download an embroidery design on to my computer, then from the computer on to a USB drive, then move the drive to the machine and have it recognize it. I also had to remember how to hoop the project and work a program that lets me view the design and change thread colors.
I had a lot of fun making them. Baby's first Christmas was going to be my youngest daughter's new baby a dress yoke, then it was going in to a bib, and in the end, didn't get made at all. Now, that daughter has a second baby on the way...again...so will hold on to it until we find out the gender later this month. This is called Free Standing Lace. It is stitched out on water soluble stabilizer, in other words it dissolves when water is applied. It hardens, similar to starch, and is meant to be free standing such as an ornament hanging from a tree or sitting upright. I absolutely love FSL (free standing lace) because of how many different ways it can be used.I may have not dissolved it completely properly, but it was just a test run to see how the machine's embroidery unit worked. It worked spectacularly.
This piece was for my older grand daughter, the toddler. I used a scrap piece of fabric, chalked the pattern piece outline, then hooped the piece and stitched. This design is candy canes, which coordinate with the candy cane fabric I was going to make the dresses out of. Since the two girls are from different families, and even though they are cousins, I decided it would be a bit strange to have them in dresses that were the same fabric. Now, with the announcement of the youngest grand daughter getting a sibling in the summer, I decided to hold off on making Christmas outfits until Christmas 2022.
Well, I am worn out, hubby is grilling steaks and I am going to just relax a bit. Thank you for visiting and come back often.
